About me and my motive

I am currently working as a doctor in Adelaide, but I still remember those days when I arrived in Australia and it was really hard to find information about Australian Health System and how to get a job. Now I know basic about what is the procedure and how to get into the system. I thought I should start a blog about IMGs  and OTDs who are trying to move to Australia. There are lots of information available about this and those are useful, but either they provide too much information or provide confusing information. I will try to provide practical aspect of this from my experience. You will also find useful links from this blog. Please fell free to contact me about specific question and I will do my best to address that.
It is easy to get job if you have right direction, right support and you are eligible (more about this later), but it takes time. You need lots of patient, but you will get there if you are hardworking and motivated.
Now, lets talk about little bit about me, then move to the main discussion. I studied my medicine in India and graduated in 2005. I moved to Australia in February, 2010 on student visa. I took admission in University of Technology, Sydney. Initially, I wanted to do Master of Health Service Management, but end up doing Graduate Diploma due to personal reasons and time restrain. During that time, I cleared my English requirement and passed AMC part one exam. Now I was eligible for job as a medical practitioner in few states, but didn’t know the right pathway. I struggled for a while and then finally got entry as an Intern in 2008, since then I am working in same hospital and finished full registration requirement. Alright, this is enough.
I also encourage people to be proactive and contact me with their articles and I would be happy to publish their article with their name. I am from India and working in Adelaide. I know that different people have different requirement, so if you are from different country or working in different region, I would like you to invite as a mentor.
In my next blog, I will list common abbreviation in relation to this blog site. Be first to get my next blog by joining this blog on upper right hand corner.

  3. First of all thanks for ur kind reply. I would like to ask u few quires.

It seems Clinical assessment briding courses will be very helpful to get acquainted to Australian health care set up before we take up part-2 AMC exams. Does mcq bridging courses help or home prep is enough.

To apply for MCQ briding course the candidate should be assessed by AMC as eligible to sit in MCQ exams. To be labeled eligible do we have to apply separetely to AMC before applying for standard examination procedure?.

Can u explain about work place based assessment in standard pathway of entry. Is that the way to get job after completing MCQ exams to register to practice in selected states.
By registered to practice in few states we will be working under supervision or as GP. Then what is the eligibility criteria to apply for Post graduation there and scope of doing PG there.

You have mentioned that u went on students visa to do master of health service management but it ended with graduate diploma. In in the mean time u cleared for english requirements and mcq exams.
Can we enter australia now with out clearing english requirements on students visa. And what diploma or other courses we can do before we take up mcq exams. will they be helpful in securing a job or is it better to enter briding courses directly and take up mcq exams.
Once again thank u. Awaiting ur kind reply.

  5. Hi Arvind,
Regarding AMC MCQ bridging course, I didn't do need to do it as I cleared my AMC MCQ on first go. One of my friend did bridging course in Melbourne and he told me that it was really useful, it cost him about $2500. From his explaination, I think it would be useful if you can afford and can do it. It is not difficult to get MCQ date, even if you fail you can try again and it will cost you $1830 at the moment.

Yes you understanding about eligibility for MCQ is right.

  6. There is no such pathway - workplace base assessment for standard pathway at this point. They are developing that pathway and will come in future. You can get job after MCQ and English test. Some hospital hire doctor after having structure interview (similar to OSCE exam), but junior position is easy to get and usually doesn't involve detail interview.
Now in Australia we have central registration system for medical practitioner and you can get more information from APHRA's website. South Australia, WA, Queensland and some part of Victoria offers intern position after MCQ and English test, but it is getting more competitive.

  7. University course and student visa has different English requirement and you have to find out for the specific course.

There are lots of non-clincal courses you can do to enter in Australia, none of them are really useful to get doctor's job, unless you want job in that field. Health Service Management, Public Health Nursing and Sonography are amongst the courses doctors do to get entry.

Regarding non-clinical course and AMC bridging course - You should make your own personal decision according to your circumstances. I am not in position to give any personal advise without knowing your personal circumstance.

Hope this answer your queries. Regards

  11. Hi Satish,
That is excellent!! You have already read the basic books. Last one month is really important and you should read which is really useful for the exam. Concentrate your reading towards clinical knowledge. Revise what you have read so far. Read AMC books, recall/reconstructed questions (if you can find - this is useful, but use your brain and read the question in exam), Oxford handbooks and Dr John Murtagh's GP book.
    Good Luck

  12. thank you so much for ur reply sir, i had one doubt that i read in amc website that all questions in amc mcq exam are giving from previous papers and handbook of mcq n annotated mcq.only thirty questions are new ones which dont have marks. how far is it true?

  13. Hi Satish,
That is true in some sense as per my understanding. They put some questions without any marks to evaluate questions for future exams. So most of the questions with marks as from previous exams.

  17. hello sir,
i have just completed my mbbs course plus internship from india and i have started preparing for the AMC MCQ exam and plan to sit for the exam this may. i needed a little help regarding the same.
i read in your blog above you took up a gradate course and wanted to know how does that help. i had been asked earlier to take up a public health course by the consultancies but they are all very long and expensive.i will be very grateful if you could help me through the process. i have tried applying for jobs but havent recieved any reply.

    thankyou,
    darshana

  18. Hi Darshana,
Those courses are not really useful, but gives you some insight about the system. Public Health courses are little bit usefull if you are planning to pursue career in the fied. I would treat those course mainly as to get easy entry in Australia. You are legally allowed to stay in Australia while doing the course and abe to find job. Everyone has different situation and should consder accordingly.
    Regards,

  19. Hi sachin!
Im confused about taking the bridging course. These days the story has become even tougher. Im a fresh graduate completed internship in india last month. And i want to study and take exam by myself in india itself. Is there something like chances of clearing the exam r bttr if u take the coachung and exam in aus? Or is it equally good to be dine feom india itself?

  21. Tire changer is another important component of any automotive repair shop. Nowadays people are particular about the tires they use and thus excellent tire changer equipment is indispensable for satisfying the customers. Automatic tire changer, PAX tire changer, manual tire changer are some of the equipments available in the market. They can be expensive and so the automotive shops need to look for automotive repair financing. Herbert
